Why iLASIK is the right choice for you…and how you can afford it

Why iLASIK is the right choice for you

iLasik is the right treatment to correct your vision because it simply works. iLASIK is for people with mild to severe nearsightedness and mild to severe farsightedness. It is also for people with astigmatism as it can correct all types of astigmatism.

Compared with the standard LASIK, iLASIK has been proven to be more effective in achieving 20/20 vision. In fact, it is so effective that it is approved for use in all branches of the military and even by NASA. Clinical trials have shown that patient satisfaction is also higher.

What is iLASIK?

iLASIK makes use of the two of the most advanced technologies in laser eye correction and surgery: Advanced CustomVue technology and Intralaser FS Femtosecond laser technology. Laser light is used in surgical procedures that are too delicate for scalpels, such as in the eye. In LASIK, the laser cuts and reshapes the curvature of the eye, thereby allowing for clearer vision. It is practically the same with iLASIK. The only difference is the use of the most advanced technology in eye correction and the use of all-laser procedure.

The Advanced CustomVue detects the minutest imperfections in the eye that are not visible without the use of this technology. Intralase enables surgeons to create blade-free corneal flaps. This is very important because most cases of complications are caused by the microkeratome or the hand-held blade used in creating corneal flaps. Moreover, Intralase allows surgeons to tailor the corneal flap of patients for better vision.

How to afford iLASIK

If you think you should have iLASIK, do not let the cost stop you. Here are different ways for you to afford the procedure:

1. Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

Commonly called “flex plan”, it is an employer-sponsored plan. This means that your employer will deduct a specific amount from your salary then deposit it to your FSA which you can then use for your iLASIK procedure. If you do not use all of the money in your FSA, this will be returned to your employer. In other words, you will not be able to get back the salary you contribute to the account. Most eye centers, such as Sugarland Eye & Laser Center, encourages patients to use their FSA because it is tax-free and it allows patients to create their own financing program for their surgery.

2. Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)

HRA is similar with FSA except that you will not lose the money even if you do not spend it. The money will be carried over from year to year. In other words, if the cost of iLASIK is less than the amount of money in your account, you can still use it for other medical expenses you might need.

3. Health Savings Account (HSA)

Whether you are self-employed or employed, you can set up your own HSA. All you have to do is purchase a high-deductible health insurance. With this, you can now open an HSA account in any bank. Again, it is best to talk to your Houston eye and laser center to know how much you will need. Sugarland Eye & Laser Center can provide you with the information that you will need to set up your account.
