Top 5 Things To Do When Camping With Contacts

If you are a seasoned camper and have been wearing contact lenses for years, then you know how difficult it can be for those who go camping for the first time wearing their contact lenses. For the novice campers with contact lenses out there, here are the top five things to do when camping with contacts. These tips will make things easier for you and will help you to remember what to bring along on your trip.
1. Bring Your Eyeglasses
Even if you have stopped wearing your eyeglasses for year, now is the time to take them out from your closet and include them in your packing. Things can get a little rough in the mountains that you can just as easily lose your contact lenses. In fact, even if the weather is expected to be clear and sunny, out there in the mountain, it can instantly change. We’ve heard stories of some campers who were caught off guard by the rain that before they knew it, they had rubbed their eyes and lost their contact lenses. So it is best to have a spare set of lenses and of course your eyeglasses. In fact, if you can, wear your eyeglasses when you go camping. Why? Because your eyeglasses are not as high maintenance as your contact lenses.
2. Bring Wipes
Wipes are good for cleaning your hands before handling your contact lenses. Although it is best to wash your hands properly with soap and water, in some cases, it is easier to use wipes. Now, if you really want to be cautious, you can use wipes to clean your hands and the water bottle first before washing your hands properly. This will reduce the risk of contaminating your lenses.
3. Bring a Portable Water Filer and Saline
You cannot just wash your hands with any available water when camping so if you are wearing contact lenses, you need to invest on a portable water filtration system. The good thing is that you can find one that is very handy and effective in removing bacteria from water. There are portable water filtration systems that are no bigger than your hands so they are very convenient to use and very handy. The saline solution is of course for your contact lenses.
4. Wear Extended-Use Contact Lenses
If you are one of those who find wearing and cleaning contact lenses a hassle, consider wearing extended-use contact lenses. They are a bit expensive, but you can sleep in them and will not have to remove them every night.
5. Consider LASIK Surgery
Many campers that we have met in our office have decided to have LASIK because contact lenses can really be a big hassle when camping. If you are a regular camper and see yourself camping for many years to come, it is a good investment to make.
