The IntraLase Method: Why it is Becoming a Preferred Blade-Free LASIK Methodology

The IntraLase blade-free technology became a popular eye surgery method performed with expertise at Sugarland Eye & Laser Center in Houston. In this method, laser light pulses create the corneal flap. The flap becomes lifted so that laser surgery can be applied to reshape the cornea. After the treatment, the flap is securely positioned in its original place. Being a blade-less procedure, and computer-aided, this procedure lists as highly accurate. It has more precision than procedures performed using mechanical microkeratomes.
Used successfully on thousands of patients
A statistic that suggests that this surgery is being favored for those wanting a blade-less procedure is established by the fact that thousands of eyes have already undergone the IntraLase Blade-less procedure. Being an advanced technology, patients have experience exceptional results. Surveys have revealed that the preference for IntraLase Blade-free laser eye surgery over mechanical blade-treated procedures is 3 to 1.
Clinical studies suggest that patients have achieved 20/20 vision with this type of surgery compared to the leading microkeratome. This technology utilizes superior technology and is safe. Even those who were not eligible previously for LASIK can undergo a successful IntraLase surgery thanks to this path-breaking surgical technology.
Who can undergo IntraLase?
This surgery became ideal for those affected with eye conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Candidates for this type of surgery are assessed based on several factors such as amount of refractive error, amount of refractive correction needed, age, refractive error stability, and general eye health. Those who are under eighteen years of age have undergone surgery of the cornea previously or have vision only in one eye may not be considered for surgery.
Using the IntraLase IFS 150 Advanced Femtosecond laser for cutting the corneal flap creates a safer LASIK surgery than the procedure that uses a blade. Eye treatment with the IntraLase Femtosecond will result in less pain. Patients report less discomfort than with a blade microkeratome. The IntraLase procedure has been deemed a safe process which has good visual outcomes. Comfort along with safety of our patients is our number one concern and priority. Therefore we offer the best proven LASIK flap creation technology available.
How is the flap created in IntraLase?
The method utilized to create the flap is dissimilar to that performed using the traditional microkeratome blade. The IntraLase laser technology precisely programs flap dimensions based on eye specifications. Without cutting the surface, the flap is created below the surface of the cornea. Pulses of light moving at a superfast velocity position bubbles (of microscopic size) at a pre-determined, precise depth. As the light passes through the cornea harmlessly, rows of bubbles are created underneath the corneal surface.
The IntraLase laser uses the bubbles and stacks them around the corneal diameter. The objective becomes to create the edges of the flap with this approach. The bubbles can be positioned and stacked at any angle. The flap is lifted and the laser is applied to reshape the corneal tissue. The flap is replaced into original position after surgery.
