Quick Recovery Tips from LASIK Surgery

LASIK surgery has become very popular for people looking for permanent solutions to correct their vision problems. This procedure is straight-forward and requires less time for completion than other procedures. Like any surgical procedure, this one too takes time to heal. While you can resume your usual lifestyle in little time, it’s recommended you follow these quick recovery steps. The goal is to make your surgery last and also to help you prevent any post-operative complications.
Soon after the procedure
Like any medical procedure, LASIK too requires that you follow post-operative care in a reasonable manner. Any good medical institution, like Sugarland Eye & Laser Center in Houston, will offer you complete instruction regarding how to properly care for your eyes soon after the process. You may be advised to wear goggles so that you can shield your eyes from sunlight.
Do not vigorously rub your eyes
Even though you may feel slight discomfort, it is imperative that you refrain from rubbing your eyes, at least for the first 7 days after your surgery. Additionally, you must also wash your hands and consciously keep them away from your face. These simply function as precautions.
Follow your eye drop routine
After you have undergone laser eye surgery, your surgeon will prescribe eye drops as post-operative care. It is recommended you follow the instructions and administer the drops as advised. This offers a better outcome in most cases, but not all. Avoid infection by taking extra steps like washing your hands before applying your eye drops.
Sleep well
Look at it as a break from your hectic schedule when you are recovering from your LASIK surgery. Make the best of it by sleeping. Most healing occurs while you sleep so maximize that function.
Keep your environment clean
It goes without saying that you need to try and avoid rooms with smoke, dust or labs with harmful vapor. Your eyes are especially sensitive to light after LASIK surgery so avoid going out during the day. However, you can overcome this restriction by wearing sunglasses. In fact, it may also help you wear them indoors as well.
Avoid sporting activities
LASIK surgery makes your eyes susceptible to physical damage. You must avoid sports for at least a month following the procedure. Any activity that puts your vision at risk is to be set aside in during the recovery period. Once this period is past you may return to your favorite sports activities.
Recovering from LASIK does not mean staying indoors all the time. Sugarland Eye & Laser Center will have plenty of suggestions to maintain an active lifestyle after your surgery. You simply need a short time of self-care to ensure the best outcome after your procedure. Do not overdo the restrictions. If you experience halos and your eyes feel gritty call your doctor for advice. Please go on with your life. The whole point of any procedure is to increase quality of life and to let you remain as active as possible.
