Makeup Tips for Sensitive Contact Lens Wearers

If eyeglasses and makeup and do not go well together, the same can be said of makeup and contact lenses. In fact if you wear makeup and contact lenses every day, you are already familiar with the many problems of wearing makeup while wearing contact lenses. Now, if you have very sensitive eyes and wearing makeup irritates your eyes, here are some tips that you’ll find useful.
Clean hands solve 50% of your problem – When you wear contact lenses it is important to always have clean hands because we have a natural tendency to touch our eyes. Now, since you will be applying makeup, your hands will definitely come in contact with your eyes, starting from the time you put in your contact lens to applying moisturizer and foundation. With clean hands, there is less chance of getting your eyes irritated, which can lead to eye makeup smears and smudges.
Oil-free products prevent eye irritation – What many contact lens wearers do not know is that their contact lenses attract oil-based products, such as mascara and eye shadow. Moreover, oil-based makeup has the tendency to slide across the face; following the contours of our face, hence we usually end up with smudges and blotchiness by the end of the day. Thus, if you have very sensitive eyes, as the day progresses, some of your makeup will have already ended up in your eyes, causing irritation. The best makeup to wear is water-based makeup as it causes less eye irritation than oil-based makeup. While you’re at it, you should also check to see if the makeup is hypoallergenic. Most eye irritations are allergies, so it is best to make sure that what you are wearing will not cause an allergic reaction.
Daily contacts for when you wear makeup – Since you have sensitive eyes, your doctor may have already advised you to wear dailies or daily contact lenses. Dailies are good for those with very sensitive eyes because they get to wear a fresh set of lenses every day. This is also good if you wear makeup everyday because you will be wearing a fresh set of lenses before you apply your makeup and if you feel build up or the start of irritation, you can just as easily put in a new pair of lenses.
With these tips you can now wear makeup even if you have sensitive eyes and are wearing contact lenses. If you are tired of wearing contacts or eyeglasses, you might want to consider LASIK eye surgery. It is safe and effective in correcting vision problems. Patients report a high level of satisfaction and vision is improved immediately after the surgery. There are also other alternative to LASIK if you want a different form of treatment.
