Makeup Tips for Contact Lens Wearers

If you wear contact lenses, no reason exists why you cannot have the best makeup for every occasion. The problem for many people who wear contact lenses comes as they may get eye irritation from their makeup. In fact, even if they put on very little eye makeup, they can still have irritation from the foundation, eye shadow, and blush they wear. So, to help you avoid eye irritation, here are some makeup tips for contact lens wearers.
1. Wash your hands and properly clean your contact lenses
Before putting on makeup, wear your contact lenses so that the makeup will not transfer to your contact lenses. Make sure to wash your hands and make sure that you wash your contact lenses with the recommended contact lens solution and not tap water. As a first step this often prevents irritation and serious eye problems.
2. Use high quality mascara
Choose your mascara wisely. Avoid those that turn into clumps and those that have particles in it when you brush it on your lashes. These clumps and particles may get into your eyes and cause irritation. This does not mean that you should buy only the expensive ones. On the contrary, much less pricey mascara exists that is better for contact lens wearers. Many ordinary ones exist that do not contain fibers and other substances that are found in many brands of mascara today.
3. Use oil-free makeup
If you can help it, use only oil-free makeup. From your foundation to your blush and shadow, it is the best to use only oil-free makeup because the oil can irritate your eyes. Why? This is because the oil in makeup may get into the eye or create a film on your contact lens. The result, if not irritation, is cloudy vision.
4. Use hypoallergenic makeup
Using hypoallergenic makeup can actually lessen the chance of getting eye irritation from your makeup. More importantly, these makeup products have specific recommendations for contact lens wearers. You may consider switching to these makeup products.
5. Know where to put your eyeliner
There is no reason why you cannot use eyeliner even if you are wearing contact lenses as long as you know where to put your eyeliner. The area to avoid is the lid ledge or the area where the lids of the eye meet the eyeballs. So, you might want to put your liner on the outer lid and be careful not to touch the lid edge.
6. Use lid wipes
When removing your makeup, it is best to use lid wipes in removing your eye makeup. It works well for removing any excess makeup around the eye. Many lid wipes exist so you can choose from the best ones which are hypoallergenic and are individually wrapper.
