Habits That Protect your Vision

Findings from a research conducted last year suggested that Americans would rather lose a limb than their vision. However, thanks to the advancement in medical science, you don’t need to lose either! With the help of laser eye surgery, your vision is almost always just a LASIK procedure away from becoming near perfect.
But before you seek cure, is it not better to prevent it in the first place? The eye specialists such as Sugarland Eye & Laser Centerin Houston recommend the following good habits that promotes overall quality vision and also reduces the risk of eye complications.
Never underestimate the importance of UV protection
Did you know that exposure to UV rays can cause eye problems such as photo-keratitis, also known as eye sunburn? Even though the impact is only temporary, the symptoms can cause burning and irritable feeling in the eyes while causing sensitivity to the light. As a matter of fact, long term sun exposure to UV radiation can also increase the possibility of developing cataracts. If you want to prevent this problem, it is important to get a good quality eye protection gear that will offer at least 99% protection from harmful UV rays.
Take some time off from technology
Our dependence on smartphones, laptops and laptops has increased so much that most of us end up staring at these screens for most part of our day. This is what the experts call a digital eye strain. The symptoms are dry eyes, redness, itchiness, eye fatigue, eye twitching and blurry eyesight. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended that you step away from your screens after every 20 minutes. When you look at your screens, experiment a bit and see what distance when you hold a screen away your eyes that your eyes relax. Or use the accessories feature to gray the background screen. White causes the most glare and strain on the eyes so simply changing the background color on documents and web pages lessens the strain.
Never wear contact lenses to bed
Sleeping with contact lenses on can interrupt the flow of oxygen into the eyes which is required by your eyes to replenish. This is the reason it is highly recommended that you take off your contact lenses before you sleep each night. This way, your eyes can reload on its moisture while your contact lenses are cleaned from the bacteria.
Always clean your eye makeup brush
If you use the same brush over and over again, it can infect your eyesight due to bacteria that gets accumulated on dirty brushes. Pink eye or the conjunctivitis happens when your eyelids and the eyeballs get inflamed. This is completely preventable by cleaning the makeup brushes regularly. You can clean the brushes with a mild soap and warm water once every month to keep them clean. Or buy with the brush provided such as mascara and if used daily replace 3 to 4 months.
Get a regular eye checkup
Nothing protects your eyesight the way regular eye check does. If you have any disease, it will be detected early and can be fixed before it becomes irreversible. This becomes especially crucial when you are dealing with conditions such as glaucoma which remain undetected due to lack of symptoms. This is why you need to prioritize eye check-up at least once every year if a history of eye problems exists in your family.
