Good Enough for the Military

As you may already know, the way LASIK procedures are performed and their ultimate results can be powerful and even life changing. People who used to need thick glasses may end up barely needing glasses or contact lenses at all after the procedure. Through the use of both conventional and more advanced techniques, an experience surgeon can change a person’s life using only technology and skill. People gain new perspective through clearer vision every day.
A History of Functionality
According to the official website of the United States Air Force, aviators have been using LASIK as part of the basis of their readiness for several years. As far back as 2004, aviators who pilot aircraft flying at less than14,000 ft. have been using LASIK. The chief of staff of the Air Force and the surgeon general both approved of aviators having LASIK procedures done prior to entering service and in cases where their vision has started to deteriorate.
Standard LASIK procedures are in common use for both the military and civilian populations. For decades, individuals who have wanted to see more clearly have taken on LASIK surgery as a means of improving both their eyesight and their overall lives. With this kind of history, most of any remaining fears that an average person may have stem from being afraid of anesthesia or of an irrational concern about "something touching their eyes."
The Most Modern Methods
Modern methods of LASIK include what is known as WFG LASIK. Instead of being based on individual’s eyeglasses and their prescription the way standard LASIK is, the WFG variety is based upon a measuring system that uses beams of light that the surgeon sends into the patient’s eye. These beams then bounce outward, giving a computer a microscopically accurate map of the eye.
Like Tiny Topography
A human eye has at least one similarity to the earth — its roughly spherical and not totally smooth. There are microscopic aberrations, indentations and other irregularities on the eye’s surface that can become the source of problems. Many of these problems become near-sightedness, far-sightedness and the like. When the WFG LASIK’s monitoring system checks the surface of your cornea, the surgeon and his or her equipment can adjust your eyes to work at their peak level of functionality. In some cases, an individual can go from having below average eyesight to far better than average.
War Fighter Proven
Since 2000, the US Air Force has set up treatment facilities that can transform an aviator’s eyesight from within the average range to better than 20/20. In many cases, a WFG LASIK procedure can enhance a pilot’s ability to see, navigate and effectively fly at night. Seeing as LASIK of this caliber is good enough for military applications, how could it not be good enough for you? It is important to keep in mind that the WFG type of LASIK is not for everyone. Talk to your surgeon beforehand to see if this is the best option for you. Make sure they are of the same high quality as Sugarland Eye & Laser Center.
