Eye Surgery and You

Eye surgery is a major step to take and a lot of people are far too afraid to even seriously consider it, but if you are going to go through with this step in making your eyesight better, congratulations! It takes some courage to wade through the uninformed and take a stand to make your life better, particularly when it comes to an area that is as sensitive as your eyes. When you have made up your mind and are about to undergo surgery, there are many ways in which you can prepare yourself effectively. Keep in mind that not just your eyes are going to need to adjust to this process.
Avoid Eye Gunk
A lot of people use all sorts of creams, eye liner and other goods that fall under the general heading of "lotions and potions." When you are about to undergo eye surgery, you are going to want to avoid doing this for at least a day or so before you have your surgery. This is important not only to avoid getting anything into your eyes that could cause an infection, but also to provide the clearest possible surgical field for the attending physician’s benefit.
Remove Contact Lenses
The entire point of many kinds of eye surgeries is to remove the need to wear contact lenses, and this is a good chance to do just that. For a least a couple of weeks before you have your surgery, you want to avoid wearing contacts entirely. This will allow your cornea to resume its natural shape, so your physician can take the most accurate possible measurements. Otherwise, you could end up with a botched surgery that leaves you with eyesight that is still off. The idea of doing it once the right way applies to this as much as to any other kind of work.
Prepare Your Finances
You are going to need to pay for your surgery somehow. As unpleasant as it is to think about the financial aspects of a surgical procedure, many kinds of eye surgeries are considered to be elective. This means that you will have to pay for your surgery out of your own pocket instead of trusting insurance to foot the bill. When you have at least a month’s worth of bills paid and the entire cash amount of your surgery saved up, you are financially ready to undergo most any kind of eye-related surgery without having to worry. Sugarland Eye & Laser Center have a good plan for you to make payments. Talk to one of our friendly and helpful counselors.
Be Ready to Miss Work
Missing work is going to be a part of the process, at least for a day or two. Expect to have someone drive you to and from your surgery, as leaving will involve some grogginess from the anesthetic and some blurry vision from the procedure itself. This a safety issue that you would be wise not to ignore, if you choose to drive home anyway take a friend rather than end up getting into an accident.
