Do Your Eyes Deceive You

Perhaps one of the best quotes from the movie Star Wars was when Obiwan Kenobi told Luke Skywalker, "Your eyes will deceive you, don’t trust them." When your eyesight is less than stellar, it can seem as if the entire world looks wrong in a lot of ways. If your eyesight has gotten progressively worse over the years, it can almost seems as if the world is melting away and being replaced by something scary and strange. It can feel crippling considering that for more human beings 90 percent of stimulus comes in through our eyes.
As Eyes Deceive
For people who have been suffering from a lot of different kinds of degenerative eye conditions, even if it is merely the onset of myopia or nearsightedness, it can seem as if there is nothing that can be done except for wearing annoying looking glasses or uncomfortable contact lenses. The prospect of having surgery done can be a scary thought, particularly for people who have heard very little besides the facts. On one level surgery can actually sound terrifying for a person who does not understand that it has a high level of safety when it is properly done.
Making the Choice
If your eyes are deceiving you on a regular basis, you have a challenging decision to make — do you have something done about the problem or do you continue to have some of your most trusted parts within your own body rebel against you? This is a decision that is not always easy to make, but doing so in a rational way can make the difference between a lifetime of seeing poorly or seeing well. While not everyone is a good candidate for certain kinds of surgeries, for the most part they are safe and effective for virtually everyone.
Truth from the Outside
On one hand, there is a lot of deception that comes from every angle. Online you will find all sorts of horror stories that may or may not be true. Among the people you to talk, the idea of having eye surgery done will have all sorts of mixed concerns thrown in by people who may or may not know what they are talking about. If there is one constant in the world, it is that there is plenty of misinformation out there, but one thing you can count on is that a reputable physician who has experience in performing eye surgeries will provide you with an unbiased appraisal of whether you are a good candidate for eyesight improving surgeries or not.
Ultimately, it is your decision whether you want to let you eyes deceive you. Since no one in the real world has The Force to fall back on, not trusting your eyes can be a very alienating experience that can make your life that much less happy than it should be. Do you want to live with better eyesight, or do you want to live with a lot of fear or what might happen based on what some uninformed people say?
