The Clarity of LASIK

Low vision defines as a person having a visual acuity measurement of 20/70. It relates to the eye chart. The 70 portion means from 70 feet away a person with unimpaired vision of 20/20 can see the letters on the chart. The top number of 20 means that the person testing can see what the person of unimpaired vision at 70 feet saw only when they stand 20 feet away . The brain must work harder to decipher what it sees. What it does see often becomes blurry.

Consequences of Low Vision

The visual acuity means more than a number. Loss of vision interferes with daily activities. The ability to read lessens or it takes much energy to do causing eye fatigue. The ability to write legibly becomes much harder. Watching television becomes nearly impossible as the fast-moving images do not make sense. Recognizing faces of family becomes more difficult and driving a vehicle impossible. The possibility of having an accidental fall also increases.

At the Houston Lasik clinic vision of this type under certain conditions can become restored all due to the innovative thinking of the original patent by Dr. Gholam A. Peyman.

Peyman’s Idea

In the 1980s and even into the 1990s much research occurred having to do with lasers and surgery. As these technologies developed surgeons began to see the possibilities and applications of it. Dr. Gholam Peyman saw the lasers and invented the LASIK eye surgery procedure. Dr. Peyman had pioneered early studies in intraocular drug delivery. He also pioneered vitreoretinal and refractive surgeries. First, he did a retionchorioidal biopsy and then transplanted a retinal pigment epithelial cell to lessen age-related macular degeneration. The development of this knowledge allowed him to see fully the potential of the new technology. In 1985 he applied for a patent to use excimer lasers for correcting refractive errors with stromal ablation under a corneal flap. Today the procedure is named LASIK. For this accomplishment and many others, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He became included in the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Hall of Fame while still living. In 2013 President Obama gave Dr. Peyman the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

Today

Award-winning doctors such as Dr. Amjad Khokhar continue the integrity, innovation, and ideas of Dr. Peyman. As a result, the success rate of a LASIK surgery as of October 2017 according to the American Refractive Surgery Council remains at 96 percent. Patient satisfaction after the surgery remains unusually high as well. Laser eye surgery in a skilled professional that does consultation and customized treatment plans remains a safe procedure. The clarity of eyesight it gives in some patients improves their quality of life vastly under the right conditions. Careful selection of candidates for the procedure continues to be the best path to ensure the best results. Clarity of visions gives a person their life back.

Every year LASIK studies continue to improve the percentages for different eye conditions. Then doctors such as Dr. Amjad Khokhar in Houston implement the new findings. Call the staff for information and then arrange a consultation with a doctor to get a personalized treatment plan.

Houston Lasik leads in providing premium LASIK technologies to Houston, Sugar Land, and the surrounding region. The center’s award-winning medical director introduced revolutionary technologies such as iLASIK to the region. This technology is used by NASA astronauts, Navy SEALS, and Air Force fighter pilots. At Houston Lasik, you can now receive the same treatment. For more information, please call (281) 240-0478.
