Low vision defines as a person having a visual acuity measurement of 20/70. It relates to the eye chart. The 70 portion means from 70 feet away a person with unimpaired vision of 20/20 can see the letters on the chart. For this accomplishment and many others, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He became included in the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Hall of Fame while still living. In 2013 President Obama gave Dr. Peyman the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
