A Day in a Life: After Lasik

A lot of people are asking how Lasik can change one’s vision. What they actually mean, although they may not be aware of it, is how much change can Lasik make in their lives. Well, this is of course very subjective since we all depend on our eyes in different ways. Moreover, some of us have poorer eyesight than others. What makes us different is the way Lasik liberates us from the burden of having poor eyesight.
Right After the Surgery
I know this is a day in a life, but I want to start from the important things about the surgery. Right after the surgery, you will already notice a big difference in your vision. You will also notice a little bit of discomfort and itchiness. Do not rub your eyes and make sure you follow everything that your doctor instructed.
One Day, Weeks After the Surgery
By this time, you are already enjoying your eyesight. You may be going out more, driving and even playing golf without the hassle of wearing contact lenses or eye glasses. For me, the big difference starts from at around 5 am when I check upon the kids before going back to sleep again. Before Lasik, I need to search for my glasses and most of the time, I cannot find where I put it the night before. With Lasik, this is no longer a problem.
Then in the morning after waking the kids up for school, I no longer need my glasses to prepare their breakfast, dress up the little ones and find the always missing books, pens or whatever the kids need to bring to schools but somehow have disappeared in the mooring. Once the kids are gone, I will start preparing for work. Wearing makeup while wearing eye glasses can be a bit tricky. I do not wear contact lenses because they are a bit expensive so before Lasik, I put on my makeup while wearing my eyeglasses. When I am on the eyes and cheeks area, I will remove them and hope that I am putting everything in their right places. If you have tried putting on a lipstick in the dark and have not done it before, you know what I mean. At work, I hardly ever notice the difference now but what I can say is that I have become more efficient. Maybe because I am now more confident with the way I look. I am no longer this person who hides behind thick glasses and awful makeup. At night, helping the kids with their homework or playing with them before bed is a lot easier. I used to wear my eyeglasses when I play with them and it can sometimes be difficult especially if you have younger children who do not realize that your eyeglasses can break so easily. And of course watching TV without glasses is a delight.
